Airs C- Murray Jackson, Fendalton, is spending a holiday at Hanmer Springs. Airs Dinwiddic, of Napier, is xlie guest of Mrs W. J. Bolam. Rugby Street. Mrs Sholto Douglas, of Ethelton, is spending a few days in Christchurch and is at Warner’s Hotel. Dr and Airs Buchanan, Hokitika, are visitors to Christchurch, and are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Air and Airs K. W. Knight, AYhakatane, are recent arrivals at the Clarendon Hotel. Airs Neil 'Rattray returned to Waimate to-day, after spending a holiday in Christchurch. Aliss Nancy Thomson, .Bidwill Street, Timaru, will leave Christchurch to-day on a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Airs Arthur Pearce, Wellington, is the guest of Miss Ai’Dean, Ardgour, Sealej' Street, Timaru. Airs W. A. Day, who was with Airs J. P. Newman, Aloana, returned 'o Christchurch yesterday. Aliss Margaret Harper, North Canterbury, is with Airs Maurice Harper, Kinnoull, Wai-iti Road, Timaru. Airs J. Stewart Aloir, Kelburn. AVellington, is visiting Christchurch, and is the guest of Airs A. C. Henderson, Rugby Street. Air and Airs Edward Morton (Auckland;, and Aliss B. Brown (Wellington). are among the recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel. Air and Airs Davis, of Liverpool, who are touring New Zealand, wilt arrive in Christchurch to-day from the north. Aliss Temple, Sarah Street, Timaru. has arrived in Christchurch on the way to Auckland, where she intends to spend the winter months. Aliss Al’Elrea, who has been the guest of Airs J. AI. M’Lean (Christchurch), has left for Timaru. where she will make a short stay before returning to her homo in Dunedin. Air and Airs 11. A. Le Cren. Aliss Le Cren, Nga-Punuwai, and Mr and Airs Vivian Le Cren, Tekapo. will leave by the s.s. Aorangi shortly for England, via America. On Monday evening the members of the Eroica Club met at the home of Aliss Alarjorie Alanning to bid farewell to Aliss Frances Fair bairn, a member who is shortly leaving for England. A delightful musical programme was given, after which a presentation was made wishing Aliss Fairbairn bon voyage. A charming feature of the Sumner Presbyterian ilower show held in the Town Hall was the many attractive stalls placed at one side of the hall. Each stall was laden with wares pertaining to the class in which they were placed, and a brisk sale was carried on throughout the afternoon and evening. The various stalls and those in charge were: Work stall, Alesdames Cook, Lee, Longuet and SJierrard; produce and cakes, Alesdames Bowden and Fitzhenry : sweets, members of the girls’ Bible class; aprons. Aliss Dalziel ; variety, Alesdames Hampton and Roswell ; afternoon, tea, Airs Browne and helpers.

On Saiurday a most enjoyable evening \va» spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs H. Bas tin, Thornhill Crecsent, Cashmere Hills. Dancing, musical items and games were indulged in. An amusing competition was won by Mrs S. Farrant, the men’s prize being won by Mr F. Rogers. Those pesent included : Mr and Mrs Jl. Bahtin. Miss E. Bastin, Mr and Mrs D. C. Round and Lennie, Mr and Mrs L. Duggan, .vl r and "Mrs C. Rountree and Joyce, Mr and Mrs S. Farrant and Thelma. Mr and Mrs \V. Burn, Mr and Mrs Mitchell and Trevor, Misses C 4. Campbell, L. Newby. N. Rodmill and D. O'Halloran, Messrs B. and F. Rogers, A. Strachan, L. Berg, W. Rountree and H. Patterson. A pleasing little function took place recent;v at Rakaia when Miss Ivl. Willis, who lias been on the teaching staff of the Rakaia School for the past two years, and who has been appointed to the Fendalton School, was the recipient of a presentation from her church friends. In the unavoidable absence of the Rev E. X. Blakiston, Mr M’Dougall made the presentation. He spoke of the sterling qualities of the guest arid of the energetic part she had always taken in various works connected with the church, school and district. ITe asked Miss Willis to accept a handsome brush and comb as a token of the esteem and respect in which she was held, and wished her every happiness and success in her future. Miss Willis suitably responded, expressing her regret at parting with her many kind friends and co-workers. An enjoyable evening was given recently by Mrs G. Taylor, of Hawclon Street. Sydenham. A pleasant time was spent in dancing, games and vari* ous competitions. The winners of the competitions were: Mrs Barclay and Mr 15. Stewart. Musical and vocal items were contributed by Mrs R. DANCE AT DIXIELAND. Delightful hospitality was extended by Mr and Mrs Ernest Boulton, of the United Service Hotel, at u dance given in Dixieland last evening to the members of their staff and their friends. The lounge was beautifully decorated with autumn-tinted foliage and chrysanthemums, and the suppertables were decked with pink and mauve flowers. Clusters of balloons were suspended from the ceiling in the ballroom. Mrs Boulton wore a handsome frock of jade moire silk with a wide hem border of ostrich feather trimming of the same shade. During the evening Mrs Boulton was the recipient of a beautiful bouquet of shaded flowers and fern. Sutherland’s Band sunplied the music, and extra* were played by Mr Bid good’s orchestra.
