An objection to tho renewal was lougud by the Canterbury Land Agents’ Association. Mr Dougall appeared for the applicant and Mr Thomas for the dissociation. Mr Dougall asked for an adjourn- j ment. lie said that counsel who had j been briefed for the case did not ap- j pear. The speaker, who had taken the case at short notice, did not feel him- ; self in a position to go on with it. Mr Thomas objected to the adjournment. The speaker had had to leave a case at Temuka to take the case, and without, warning, he was told that counsel for the other side desired an adjournment. He had spoken to Mi Dougall at 9.45 this morning, and was not told that an adjournment was wanted. Mr Dougall said that he had not liaci time to prepare the case. It was only last night that the case had been I placed in his hands. Mr Thomas said that he told Mr Dougall’s partner of the case three weeks ago, and also gave him a written list of the witnesses that were to be called. The Magistrate said that the Act provided that if a license was not renewed by May 1. the Minister could strike the licensee’s name oil the roil. "L shall adjourn the case on the conditions that Mr Cook pays full costs of the adjournment. The only question is as to tlv? day that the case can be adjourned to. Would Tuesday suit both parties?” On counsel agreeing on Tuesday as the date, the Magistrate adjourned the case, with £0 2s costs against Cook.
