The balance of trade between Canada and Australia is overwhelmingly in favour of the Dominion, which lias ua*t.u rally increased the difficulty of reaching a commercial agreement. Canada- asked for the opening of the negotiations lately in progress. The Australian Government, despite much opposition, ratified the agreement .ind the failure of che Canadian Parliament to approve of it at this late date can hardly help being regarded as a | deliberate affront to Vustralia.
