A TEST OF STAMINA.

Saturday’s cycle race from Timaru to Christchurch must go down in Ihc history of the pastime as one of the most successful ever held. Ninety-six riders finished, which is a record, and the competitor who secured the blue riband made time that has only once been beaten, and this in spite of the facts that he had two spills and that the course was three miles longer than on previous occasions. The race, taken as a whole, represents a very considerable feat, calling for pluck, determination, and stamina, and that so many young New Zealanders were fit enough to see it out and put up such respectable times is worthy of all commendation. It means that the physical standard to-day is as sound as ever. The management of the contest was first-class, and under such circumstances there is no need for wonder at the remarkable and growing hold of cycling.
