MAN RUN OVER BY TRUCK.
~ ; (Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, July 17. A single man named Mathews, aged about 28, residing with his mother in Cambridge Street, was seriously injured this afternoon through being run over by a truck. Mathews was shunting on a rake of trucks and, on the line parallel to the one on which the trucks were, was an engine and a single truck . travelling in the same direction. Mathew's jumped off the rake on to the other line, not noticing the engine and truck coming. He was knocked down and the truck passed over both his legs which were severely crushed. He was picked up between, the engine and the truck, the engine having been stopped i before reaching him, and conveyed to I the hospital where both the legs were I amputated above the knees. His con- i dition is very low.
