EVENING MEETING. The Y.M.C.A. Athletic Club held a successful evening meeting at Lancaster Park yesterday. Tho pntrioa for moat of the ©vents wore good, particularly in the 150yds men's race and tho 100yds ladies’ event. Tho ©vents were all keenly contested, and the finishes were close. Ladies' 100yds Handicap—First heat: Mias M. Tarpey (Iyd) 1. Miss L. M'Kinley (lyd) 2. Miss L. Whittington (Iyd) 3. Second heat: Misa W. Angus (scr) 1. Mies I. Wilbrahatn (lyd) 2, Miss H. The first and second boys fought out a keen finish from handicaps well out, on the limit. Time—6B 4-3 Inter-club P.elay Race, one miIe—C.A.A.C. (N. Harvey, C. Y'ates, J. Gasson and J. J. Brownlee), 1; Harriers 2. Won by twenty yards. Time—3min 62sec. KIRWEE CLUB. The evening meeting of the Kirwee Amateur Athletic Club, which took place on Thursday, was well patronised by athletes from Christchurch, who were motored out by Mr O. 8. M’Cally. president of the Canterbury Centre. Mr M’Rolm gave exhibitions of discus throwing, weight putting and hammer throwing, and gave the local athletes advice with regard to the methods used. Mr MTlolm threw the hammer 142 ft 4in, and wan heartily applauded for his fin© exhibition. At the conclusion of the athletic eventar the visitors were entertained at tea by the local club. Mr K. Murchison, president of the club, thanked Mr M’Cully and the members of the visiting team for the sporting way in which they had come such a distance to compete with the local athletes, and stated that it was an honour that not many country clubs had received. Mr G. Batstone also spoke of the sporting way in wbich the visitors had competed. Mr M’Cully, in replying, thanked the club for the way in which his team had been treated, and said that they were only too pleased to come out and help the local club. Mr Fleweileu also spoke, and referred to the late Mr W. F. Simpson, who had been a Klrwee athleto, and whose record of 14miu 49sec for three miles still stood as the Australasian record. Mr Flowellen said that Mr W. F. Simpson was a true sport, and always went out of his way to give help nud advice to young athleteß. Cheers were given for the ladies who had attended to the refreshments. A social was held in the Agricultural Hall, at which there was a good attendance. Music was supplied by Mesdames F. Johnson and A. L. Stewart, Miss Guthrie and Mr A. Hart. Mr H. Foster was M.O.
