MAINTENANCE CASE.
(Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, April 6. There were some interesting feature* about a maintenance case, before the Ashburton Magistrate (Mr J. O. Hewitt) this morning. The defendant, a divorced man named Colin Rene William Campbell, had been “ wanted” in connection with the case since March 26. 1920. but he wai not then found, and had not been traced during the three subsequent years. Last week, however, he ventured again into Ashburton and was taken notice of by the police. He was charged with failing to maintain his child. It was stated that about LI 7 was owing. For the complainant. Mr G. H. Buchanan stated that if they could get satisfaction in the future they wer« prepared to let the arrears go. Defendant said that his arrest had caused the loss of his position in a sawmill on the West Coast. An order wa« made for the payment of 15s a week, or two months* imprisonment. the warrant to 'ye suspended as long as payments are kept up.
