AUSTRALIAN PLANS ABANDONED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 7, 9.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 1. As the result of the disarmament resolutions adopted at the Washington Conference, the proposed naval base in Obokburn, the South Western Australian part of Admiral Henderson’s defenoe scheme is being abandoned, although over £1.000,000 had been spent on the preliminary work. Arrangements are being made for the disposal of the idle plant and machinery. It is anticipated that after this ia disposed of the Commonwealth will have to meet a loss of over £500,000.
