“THE SENTIMENTAL BLOKE.”

E. ,T. and Dan Carroll announce that arrangements having been completed, they will present C. J. Dennis’s own stage play “ The Sentimental Bloke ” for a season of seven nights only at the Theatre Royal, commencing on Saturday next, April 14. The play showg the real, breathing, talking hero of C- J. Dennis’6 delightful three-act play from his own famous poem. The romance of Spadgen Lane is unfolded to uproarious laughter and occasional tears by a cast •pecially selected to interpret Dennis’s characters. The adaptation of C. J. Dennis's famous poem to the stage has been very cleverly executed. It is a domestic comedy, very human, full of heart interest and with some fine big laughs, and there is little doubt that New Zealand audiences will appreciate it a s thoroughly as did Sydney and Melbourne. Walter Cornock. who plays the name part, is the ideal Dennis's “Bloke” —tender and whimsical j but who finds it impossible to “cut the stoush ” when he considers his honour is at stake. Doreen is played by Miss Eileen Alexander, who has achieved an enviable success in the role. Owing to the enthusiasm of Melbourne and Sydney audiences, the season had to be extended. The company is at present packing his Majesty's Theatre at Dunedin nightly. The box plans for the first four nights of the Christchurch season will open on Wednesday next at The Bristol.
