Sir Robert Sanders, in the House of Commons, moved the second reading of tlie Importation of Animals Bill, removing the embargo agaist Canadian cattle. ! Mr Hnrbison, the only Nationalist member from Ulster, moved the rejection of the Bill, on the ground that ir insisted on the quarantine detention of Trish cattle as well as Canadian, thus compromising free trade between Ireland and England, which was one of the fundamental principles of the recent treaty. Mr Charles Craig and Air T. P. O’Connor took a similar view. Air E. G. Pretvman, in supporting the Bill, said that the committee which had inquired into the recent foot and mouth disease outbreak intended to recommend that imported cattle might he marketed on landing day, hut must then be detained for six days. The motion for the rejection of the Bill was defeated by 379 votes to 27.
