IF PROHIBITION COMES.
MR MASSEY DENIES A RUMOUR. NO WAGE CUTTING. (Per Press association.) WELLINGTON, December 2. The following telegram was sent to the Prime Minister by the Rev J. Dawson. General Secretary of the New Zealand Alliance : “ Civil servants in various parts of the Dominion report that they are advised that ?f prohibition is carried their salaries will be reduced in consequence. It is further said that this statement is endorsed by some members of Parliament, which i« further disconcerting them. On behalf of the New Zealand Alliance, T beg to ask if you will publicly announce whether there is any intention on the part of. the Government to reduce the salaries in the event of national prohibition beine earned.” ' b MrMassey- replied last evening:— * Tn© statement t-o which you refer is quite contrary to fact. The carrving of prohibition or otherwise will not affect the salaries of persons in th* l public service.”
