Mr a L. D. Milton is staying in town. Mrs C. F. Jefferson arrived in town From Wellington this morning. Mr and Mrs William Deans are tileguests of Mrs Bowden,, Papanui. Mr and Mrs Gordon Fulton will leave for Sydney on Saturday. Miss Hilda Pinckney (Waikaia) is staying at Warwick House. Miss Rita Matson has returned from Kaikoura, where she went to attend the Hyde-Bullen wedding. Misses L. and M. Morgan arrived this morning from Wellington, mad are staying at the United Service. Major and Mrs Hutton (Bangor) are also on their wuj* to New Zealand by the Remuera. Mrs T. S. Hyde and Miss E. Hyde, of Otago, will return home by motor to-day. Mrs Allison, who has been spending a few days in town, goes back to Greymonth to-morrow morning. Miss Hogg, who has been visiting JVlrs Sleigh at Riccarton» has returned to Invercargill. Miss Nancy Beadel and Miss Helen Whyte have returned to Christchurch from a visit to Mrs G. L. Rutherford. Mr and Mrs Bernard Tripp, who have been staying a few days at the United Service, will return home today. Mrs A. f \ Currie (AVairoa, Hawke’s May) is ill Christchurch on a visit to her parents, the Hon G. AV. and Mrs Kussell, Avonside. Miss Doris Konaldsort has returned to Christchurch from Timani. Miss Konaldson went by aeroplane and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Mr and Mrs Angus M’Donald, who stayed last night at the United Service, intend motoring on to Hanmer tociay. 3lrs F. M. Ranger, of Auckland, accompanied by Miss E. Croft and Master 15. Croft, came through from the Coast last evening, and are staying it Warner’s. Captain Tabu Rhodes, the Hon Mrs Rhodes and their three children are expected to arrive in Auckland by the Remuera on September 30. They will go to Meadowbank, Ellesmere, to reside. A party of seventy girl students from the University walked up to Mount Pleasant one day this week, under the charge of Mr Wild, of Lincoln Col- , lege, to study the geological formation I of the district. At the Cheviot Presbyterian Church : last Sunday evening Mrs Simpson, a 1 Christchurch visitor, sang, with fino effect, the sacred solo, “ He Wipes the 1 Tear from Every Eye.” Mrs Simpson is at present the guest of Mrs Tweedie, Gore Bay. Yesterday the committee of the Rangiora branch of the Plunket Society held a sale of flowers, sweets and children’s garments in the street at Johnston’s corner, in aid of the friends of the branch. The ladies put abundance of energy into their undertaking and assisted by a number of young i people did good business, chiefly with the country folk in for the market. The day’s takings amounted to £4B. At the closing session of the Canterbury W.C.T.U. Convention, recently held at Kaiapoi, a very impressive and beautiful memorial service was held for the late Airs A. R. Atkinson, of Wellington. The hymn “Light after Darkness” was reverently sung, and Airs K. England read John XIV. “Let not your heart be troubled.” The secretary read a tine appreciation of the j late leader and her work, and Mr Salkeld sang “ Crossing the Bar.” On Monday evening Airs C. C. Warner and Airs C. Woodward gave a dance in honour of their nephew. Air G. Jeliner, who is to be married to Aliss AI. Woods on Wednesday. The room was beautifully decorated with streamers of I red and gold, and spring flowers. The ' music for the dancing was supplied by Misses L. Warner and I. Rudd, and Air Phil Austin.
