eOHH TWIMBI. NEARING THE END. The Dominion Bowling Tournament will in all probability narrow clown to the finals in all the competition.?— singlcs s double?, and rinks—to-day. Although there were heavy raincloucis in the sky when play commenced, the weather was fine- and warm, and the Inn wood green, on which the games were played, was in excellent order.

In the first round there 'were three rinks, one doubles, and four singles games, the green being thus fully occupied. Doubles and rinks games take preference over singles, but as players are free from the first-mentioned two they play off their singles games. The rinks and doubles will certainly he down to the semi-finals to-night, in normal circumstances. The finals of all the competitions will if possible he played on tho Chi istchurch green toir. utow.

m THE R!NIKS. The game ir. the third round on Saturday between S. Sharp (Stratford) and W. Deo (Maitai) was closely contested, a tie occurring on the last head. Dee won the additional head. Sharp started off by scoring a four on the first head. The game was even up to the eighth head, when Sharp was two in the lead. A five on the next head gave Dee a lift up. and at the eleventh head the Maitai rink was lending by five. Sharp got five on the next head, and drew level with Dee. A four on the thirteenth head put Maitai in the lead once more. On the fifteenth head T. G. GriSn, Maitai’s third man, got u bowl on the jack. Dee’s first bowl was short, and Sharp failed to burn tho head. With bis last bowi Deo got right in on tho jack. Sharp’s attempt to burn again failed. As a result Dee scored two and was then seven up. On the next head Sharp had one lying fjuitc close to the jack. Doe’s attempt to remove the bowl failed and Sharp with a lovely shot drew another one right on to tho jack, ami scored two. Tho Stratford rink, witli good drawing, scored two on the next head and with four heads to go were three down. At this stage of the game Stratford wore playing better than at the start, J. S. Lyons especially leading well. On the eighteenth head Sharp scored two, ani this left him ono behind Doc. Maitai scored one on the next head. On the twentieth head Maitai were lying two hat with a good shot Sham removed them. A good drawn shot by D'e lett the bowl on the jack. Sharp’s attempt to remove it failed. With one head to go Deo was three in the lead. Stratford. playing in great style on the last head, lay three. Sharp just failed to draw the tourth shot that would have given him tho game. Dee’s attempts to draw in on the. jack tailed. On the extra head Dee scored two and won the game.

•J A. Nash (Palmerston North) led at tho start from T. Gray (Kelburn), and at tho fifth head lie was six up. i'heu Gray took a. hand at scoring, and at the eleventh head ho was only two behind Nash. Gray continued to gain most of the heads and by the fifteenth ho war, two in tiic lead, lie scored four on the next head, to which Nash replied with two on the seven teentli. The score at this head was Gray.,] 7, Nash 13. The next head resulted in Nash scorin:; one. On tho foliowing head p. M’Coik Kolburn’s third man. drew two good shots but Nash uith his first shot beat him. However, Gray burnt the head. On the next bead Nash scored six, and this made him three up with two heads to go. With one head to go Nash was still two up but by good plav Grav scored four on the last bead and woli the game.

The most interesting game in the Third round in the St Albans green mi Saturday was that ictwecn A. P. Lmdon (Wanganui) and A. Fookos (Carlton). The opponents were level just before half-way' was reached, hat .I'ookes then got ahead. One of the heads was remarkably fine, each of tin* two skips’ bowls being touchers. J'ookes lay four after his first bowl went away, hut finished the head wild one. Alter the fourteenth head London's ehanees dwindled, and bo finished a long way down.

E. Hnrrnway (Dumcdin) had things mostly his own way in h;s third round gamerst St. Albans on Saturday against J. W ooller _ (Reinuera). despite the fact that Weedier was fighting for his last life. On t-ho fifteenth head Harraway had IS. to Woollers 7, gained by steady scoring, and this he increased by three by the twentieth head, when, Wcollcr having only 11, the game finished.

A. P. London (Wanganui) led at the start from I. Woolf (Christchurch),

and scored on six of the first seven heads. A lour' on the seventh head made him seven tin. Christchurch scored n four on the ninth head, and were then live down. The Wanganui rink built up the thirteenth head in good style. Woolf’s attempts to drive it failed, and Wanganui scored another t.irce, winch put them nine in front. By gaining the next two heads Woolf reduced tlio majority against him to six. After this, however, Loudon scored steadily ,and with two heads to go he was ten up. Ho won with a comfortable margin. This defeat of Woolf put out iho only local rink left in the competition.

Tho game jn the rinks competition S. Sharpy (Stratford) and T. Gray (Kelbnrn) was very closely contested. Sharp won by a small margin, In tho second and third heads of the game Sharp scored a three, and by tlie fifth head lie was five up. However, a three on the ninth head gave. Gray a good lift up. By the eleventh head Stratford was three in front. Kelbnrn Eod a great game on the twelfth , Gray drawing two good shots, and thus scoring three. This made tho scores level, and Gray, by scoring ope cm the next head, got in front for the first time. The next head was built up in favour of Gray. With his first, shot Sharp tried to drive it. but instead removed the oulv Stratford bowl that was lying at all close to the jack. This left Kelbnrn lying five. Sharp, failed badly in his attempt to draw with his last shot, and Grav scored five. The score then was Gray 18. Sharp 12. On the fifteenth head Kelbnrn was king three when Sharp with a fine drawn shot got right n pto the kittv and scored one. The next two heads resulted in Sharp scoring four, and with four heads to go ho was only one down. Playing well on the next head Kelbnrn scored two. On the nineteenth head Sharp scored one, Gray failing rather badly iu his attempt to draw a shot on to’the lack, fv'„rp scored three on the twentieth head. Gray again failing in iiis attempt to draw. The last bendwas very closely contested. Gray was Ivin." one quite close to the jock. Sharp plavcd a groat shot with his last bowl and succeeded in misbing Gray’s bowl out of the way and knocking one of bis own ou to the kitty. Sham then lay one. Grav’s last bowl knocked one of his own forward and it lay verv near to the jock. The mnnire was called in to rive his decision, which was in favour of Sharp, who thus won He game.
