D. M. BRADBURY’S DISPLAY Mr D. M. Bradbury’s carnations scored yet another triumph yesterday at tho Canterbury Sweet Pea and Carnation Soci'cty’si Show in Victoria Square, when the magnificent collection of splendid blooms won the warm admiration and interest of everyone who attended. It was awarded tho gold medal for the best trade exhibit of carnations, the size, beauty and diversity of the blooms impelling experts to remark that better specimens had never been shown before in New Zealand. Bradbury’s Cashmere Nurseries have secured, as a result of three years of exhibiting in Christchurch, eight gold medals, one silver medal and 16 first-class certificates. This year tho firm has added 60 uew imported varieties to its already up-to-date collection of just over 250 varieties. Amongst those shown was a lovely bloom called “King of tho Fancies.” which has a largo and handsome yellow-ground fancy, barred with bright scarlet. A charming “ Clove Pink” had a deep pink ground, with little stripes of scarlet, and “ Miss Edio Freeman ” was in a soft shade of coral pink. The “ Silver Way” is a bloom of particular attraction, with its palo pink ground, marked with crimson, and the “Hilda” is in that soft, blurred, tender tone which nurserymen call “smoky lavender.” The* “Montezuma,” a. striking flower with a yellow ground, has a purple edge, and the “Captain Scott” is in shades of yellow and apricot. “Commander Evans” shows up in yellow, flaked and marked with crimson, and the “ Duchess of Wellington ” is a fine, sizeable bloom of the “smoky lavender” persuasion. There arc only a- very few of the varieties that were, shown, the -“Montezuma,” hy the way, being adjudged the best pieotee carnation in the show. The blooms all showed exceptional health and strength, and, looking at them, no cue could wonder at the cuviable reputation achieved by the Cashmere Nurseries for carnations. I t
