Mr R. Evans, _of Kaiapoi, returned from AVelhugton This morning. _ Messrs J. M’Combs, AGP., and I). G. .Sullivan, M.P., returned to Christchurch from "Wellington this morning. Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., will remain in "Wellington until Monday night. Tho Prime Alinister (Z\lr Massev) arrived in Christchurch to-dav from' Wellington. After calling on' his Excellonev the. Governor-General he attended tho wheat conference. He will return to Wellington .to-night. A farewell social was tendered to Mr W. Grigsby, licensee of the Club Hotel at Hie liar,.fide,n Road Hall last even’ ing. Mr .11. Hnrhc.tt, who presided, presented Mr Grigsby with two Morris chair-.,■ 0110 behalf of a largo circle of friends and Mr Grigsby suitably responded Hr G. J. Reakos, Lirector-Gcneral of the Agricultural Department, attended the conference of wheatgrenvera in this city to-day. Ho will return to Wellington this evening. “ J lie Hon V\. Nosworthy, Alinister for Agriculture, arrived in Christchurch this morning and attended tho conference of wheatgrowers in tho Provincial Council Chamber. Ho intends to motor to his homo near Ashburton this afternoon, and to spend the week end there. He will attend a conference arranged by the Canterbury Progiess League in Christchurch on Tuesday afternoon. Amongst the arrivals from the north to-day were Professor Hunter, Hi* Arlow. Hr Cameron (Auckland), and Mv A. W. Bennett. Lieutenant J. B. Lo Motto, New Zealand Staff Corps," is taking over the administrative duties for the Canterbury militnrjgdistrict from Lieutenant T. E Hendy, who will leave Christchurch shortly for America, In pre-war dim Lieutenant Le Alette was sergeantmajor 9 n tho XZP.S and left with the Alain Body of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force as sergeant-major in the Canterbury Regiment. He returned at the end of October last with the rank of major in the N.Z.E.P. Airs Lc Alolto served under the New Zealand military hcndquurloro in London {or aighteeu months of the war period.
