For the past month the residents of North Bench have been debarred from u.sing_ their concession tickets on tho No. 5 line, and the deputation which Waited on the Tramway Board recently Feinted out the inconvenience and injustice of this restriction. The ticket entitled the bolder to travel 7J miles, being tho mileage of the No. 10 lino, nml yet ho mas not allowed to use it for q; two-milo shorter journey. The Tramway Board lias now reconsidered the matter, ami after Juno 1 the No. 10 ticket will be accepted on the No. 5 line. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, A further proof of the progress and development of North Beach is tbo number of tradesmen’s delivery earts which visit the district. Not many years since it was difficult to get some tradesmen to deliver, but now grocers, milkmen and butchers have delivery carts in North Reach district. A boob repairer has also started in the district. SORE CLUB SOCIAL. The North Beach Surf Club recently derided to tender a social to the ladies who have helped the club. The subcommittee .met on Wednesday evening last, nml arrangements were made to hold the social on June 7. TREE PLANTING. The tree planting on the Esplanade Norths arranged by the. North Beach and Waimairi Burgesses' Association, gives promise of being an interesting function. Dr Thacker (Mayor of Christchurch), the Major (Mr F. Kibblewhite), councillors of New Brighton, ami also -Mr Young, curator of Christchurch Domain, have accepted invitations to bo present. FISH PLENTIFUL, Quite a number of motor-boats and a fairly large steamer have been in view, unusually close to the beach, during the past week, and this possibly accounts for the somewhat plentiful supply of flounders and other flat fish recently. REMOVAL OF SAND. Considerable improvement is being made at the west end of Swann Street by th© removal of a very large sandhill which had accumulated on tho unformed portion of the roadway. This work is being done’ without cost to the borough, ns the owner of a low section is removing it to fill in big section. REPAIRING THE ROADWAYS. The exceptional spell of dry weather is seriously affecting the roads, and a good soaking rain would bo welcomed and would materially assist tbe work of repairs. BUILDING ACTIVITIES. Tim seaward end of Pacific Road, which only a week or two ago was a -.barren sandhill, is now a. scene of activity. What with scooping work on sections, tennis court preparation, fencing sections, and. several houses in course of erection, it is at present the busiest part of North Beach* ANOTHER TELEPHONE. Following on the party wire telephone mcniioncd last week, another party of six subscribers are making a.pplication for a wire to North Beach. A VETERAN VISITOR. A frequent visitor to. Brighton, and North Beach, is Air K. \t, Seager, i There are few survivors among the early settlors who can remember tbe district earlier than this veteran. One can scarcely imagine it taking two davs to journey overland from Lyttelton to New Brighton, but that is the time it took Mr Seager when in charge, of the police at iret-lolton, to pay his first visit through swamp tracks to this now popular seaside borough in search of smugglers.
