Gray won the 1917 nmall tablo owners' tournament last night nt Messrs AlcoTk and Co.'s showrooms. Tho Kame was 300 up, Gray receiving ,-,n points start and his opponent (J. Extern was 50 l>chiiid. Gray continued to play very consistently and very quickly reßistered 200 points. At this stage. Exton besran to settle down to his panic, and take advantage of the openings, and in quick succession he made several good breaks, getting within ten points of Gray's score. From then onward right to tho finish, it was either player's game, and •the large number of interested spectators present had as exciting a time as could be wished for. Exton gave a miss in baulk, making the scores 20fi all. Gray then potted the red from a difficult angle and followed with a nice cannon off two cushions, thus winning the final. Grav's best breaks were 37, 33, 22, 12, 11, and.Exton's best were 38, 34. 32, 31, 28, 27, IG, 13. 12. It was a popular and well deserved win «ind after the game Mr W. W. Vaughan in a happy little speech, congratulated the winner unci presented him with the silver cup, ■which he holds for one year, also a repltca of tho cup in miniature aR ' a permanent memento. To the loser, and to the winner of the third place (I. Seay) he presented "Scrap of Paper" certificates. Mr Vaughan congratulated Messrs Alcock and Co. upon their enterprise in promoting the tournament, and the perfect table and fonditions they provided, and hoped tho tournament would be continued in years to come and grow in popularity. A ladies' tournament of 100 up will bo commenced on Wednesday evening, at 7 p.m.
