FOUND DEAD.

- Ad inquest was held this afternoon by Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., on the body of William Rutherford Paterson, who was found by some children at Ghaney's Corner, near the Belfast Railway Line. Mr J. L. Morgan, traffic inspector, appeared for the Railway Department. C. W. Powell, residing at L>evonpo'.-t Road, St Albans, said that ho met Paterson in Christ-church on the night of Saturday, August 12, some time after nine o'clock, and saw bum on to the train for Rangiora, He was quite sober, but appeared to be worrying over some money matters. (i. Westphal, living at Belfast, said that he knew Paterson by sight, and saw him in the late train to Rangiora on August 12, when he seemed to be ill right. "Andrew Eustace, railway servant, said that he saw Paterson on the Raugiora train, and talked to him as far as Riccarton, and he was then sober, although he might have had a drink. Senior-Sergeant Matheson gave evi--1 denco that on the morning of August !13 Paterson was found lying unconscious alongsido the railway line, abo.it one hundred vards on the Christchurch side of Craddock's Road railway crossing at Stvx, bleeding from both ears. Di Diamond was called, and ordered his removal to the Hospital. \ verdict was returned that death, was due to fracture of the base of tliie skull caused by a /all from tho platform of a railway carriage.
