MISSION STEAMER JOHN WILLIAMS.
An. unexpected arrival at Auckland '. this week was the London Missionary Society's steamer John Williams. The vessel*is making one of her periodical cruises to the various groups of islands in the Pacific, and sho came to Auckland for the purpose of reolenishing her coal supply. The John Williams left Sydneyv on August 11 for Opua, Bay of Islands, where'arraiigemeuts had been made for the vessel to coal. She arrived there ' on Thursday afternoon last, but, owing"" to there being no coal available 5 Cap--tain Kettle decided to come on to Auckland to take iu supplies. Captain E. E. Kettle, who is in command, was at one time an officer in the employ of the New Zealand Shipping Company, - his last steamer in that company being the Kaikoura. After coaling, the John W T illiams will continue her cruise. The Cook Islands will be her first call, then Nine Island, Samoa. Elliee and Gilbert Islands, and British Papua. A considerable time will be spent visiting the various mission, stations controlled by the London Missionary Society in these groups.
