The drainage system at the Hos I pital had had a great deal of attentio i lataly owing to tho enormous pressur j put upon it. The committee had plan I prepared to put the drainage on a satis I factory footing and had referred ther to the Financo_ and Buildings Com I mittee for consideration. Tho committee suggested that the board should consider the question i of provision being made by legislation I to enable boards, to borrow money for J permanent works, and was of opinion ! that this matter should be taken into ! consideration with a view to making ' proposals to the Government before the ! next session of Parliament. ! The report was adopted, and it was | decided on tho motion of Mr Cooper i to approach other hospital authorities '[ on tho question of powers of borrowI ing. | Dr Va'intine, Inspector-General of ' Hospitals, wrote in respect to the proposal to erect a sanatorium for soldiers 1 on the new grounds attached to the 1 sanatorium, to be available to soldiers from all parts of the South Island, that the Minister had decided that as far as possible all soldier patients needing treatment in a sanatorium for consumptives shall be treated in the Government sanatorium at Waikato, where additional accommodation will be provided. He was pleased to hear of the Public Health Committee's proposals as to the extension of the Christehurch sanatorium for civilian as well as military patients, but every effort would be made to treat the latter at Waikato. The letter was received. Dr G. S. Blaokmore, medical director of tuberculosis institutions, reported that during July there were BIS attendances at the dispensary and 34 per-i-ons called for information. Ten' new cases were notified, and the nurse paid 58 visits to patients in their own homes. The report was adopted, with the reports of other officers and of committees.
