Mr Thompson, physical instructor on the Invincible, on© of the five survirvors, states that the chip led the battle line into action. Thompson was in the fore control I with the gunnery commander, Dannreuthur. The first salvo at 1250 yards smashed the bows of a big four-fun-nelled cruiser, which was invisible. After the smoke and spray cleared, the Invincible altered her course to fight the big ships which were approfching in a single line ahead and engaged them at 8500 yards, firing salvo after salvo into one of the leaders. It is believed that the Hindenßurg must have sustain eel very heavy damage, and the Invincible was trying to give the finishing stroke when she herself was blown up. • Tht> ship seemed to open like a big furnace. The majority of the men were instantly killed. Thompson and Commander Danreuther fqll into the sea with the mast. They and three others / . clung to a target practice raft for an hour and were then picked up. Thompson says that the Germans handled their ships well, but were outmanoeuvred, and were no match for the British gunners. The" Germans were disorganised at iho finish. VICTIMS. AMSTERDAM, June 6. A German torpedoer has arrived at Zeebrugge towing a destroyer and submarine. The former was fuwielless, and there were holes in her sides and the submarine's decks were swept clean.
