COMMONWEALTH BANK.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Can von inform a leader of the " Star " what are the features of difference between the Commonwealth Bank, which is about to commenco business in the Dominion, and the or-j dhmr.v banks? Assuming that it has been a success, in the Commonwealth, would not the establishment of a similar one in the. Dominion produce equallv. satisfactory results?—l am, etc.. ST ALBANS, (The bank is a State, and not- a proprietnry. concern, 'ft has the sole right to issue paper money, against, which it holds a gold reserve. Tt works in conjunction with the other banks, but the profits accrue to the State, and do not go to shareholders. The establishmenfc of a. State Bank in NewZealaud has lone been advocated. If two outside banks find sufficient inducement to commence, operations jn New Zealand within a year or two, there would apnear to he an opening for a State Bank—Ed.,- ' Star.")
