COUNTY COUNCILS.

PAPAEUA. The last meeting of the Paparuai County Council was attended by Messrs; J Leslie (chairman), "Watson, Stone, • Paterson, Henley, Smith, Bailey and< M : Car thy.' • The Waimairi County Council wrote stating that it was at present reticulating the county and giving particulars "of lamps proposed to be erected a.lor<r the boundary roads. The members of the council formed themselves into a committee to, assist recruiting. ,| The Prison Department wrote with| reference to the horses which were iffl- \ pounded in the Prebbletou pound from,/ a. farm at Ladbrooks, and forwarded an' opinion from the Crown Law Office,' which stated that stock belonging •to the Government is not liable to the provisions of the Jjsjounding Act. The Department asked for a refund of the impounding ices.' It was decided to reply that the horses in question were driven to the pound by a, farmer and the poundkeeper could not refuse to take (horn, and that the fees charged were those set out in the Act. Considerable discussion took place as to the best method to bo adopted, to raise the county's quoia of the Patriotic Funds. Eventually it was decided: to call a mooting of ratepayers to dis- t cups the question with the council.
