COUNTY COUNCILS.
PAPAEUA. The last meeting of the Paparuai County Council was attended by Messrs; J Leslie (chairman), "Watson, Stone, • Paterson, Henley, Smith, Bailey and< M : Car thy.' • The Waimairi County Council wrote stating that it was at present reticulating the county and giving particulars "of lamps proposed to be erected a.lor<r the boundary roads. It was deckled to reply that the council could not agree to the proposals. The chairman of the Lincoln Oeme- ■ tery Board wrote with reference to the | boundary fence between the cemetery, aaid one of the council's reserves. It I was decided to have the fence put in<! order. ;" Mr F. W. Johnston, member of the' Recruiting Board, waited on the council with regard to recruiting in the countv. The members of the council formed themselves into a committee to, assist recruiting. ,| The Prison Department wrote with| reference to the horses which were iffl- \ pounded in the Prebbletou pound from,/ a. farm at Ladbrooks, and forwarded an' opinion from the Crown Law Office,' which stated that stock belonging •to the Government is not liable to the provisions of the Jjsjounding Act. The Department asked for a refund of the impounding ices.' It was decided to reply that the horses in question were driven to the pound by a, farmer and the poundkeeper could not refuse to take (horn, and that the fees charged were those set out in the Act. Considerable discussion took place as to the best method to bo adopted, to raise the county's quoia of the Patriotic Funds. Eventually it was decided: to call a mooting of ratepayers to dis- t cups the question with the council.
