PERSONAL.

-The Hon DrM'Nab arrived from the north to-day. Private A. D. Reese, of the Ninth Reinforcements, has been admitted to the Wellington Hospital suffering from appendicitis. The Rev P. Stubbs, F.R.G.S.. who has beeu visiting Christchurch during the last few days, will leave for the north this evening.

The following are visitors to Christchurch : —Messrs J. Bennie, J. MacArthur, D. C Peacock, J. A. Pike (Wellington), P- M. Wells (London), and W. L. Fenwiek (Edinburgh). Tho Hon J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education, will arrive in Christchurch by the second express this evening, and will leave for Wellington to-mor-row night. Mr V. Ellon, of Staveley, Mount Somers, has received word that his son, Private Frederick C H. Ellen, is reported to be dangerously ill with enteric at Ghonbra Hospital, Cairo.

, Sergeant E. G. Seed, son of Mr W. H. Seed, managing director of Peterson's, Limited, jewellers, who was invalided' home by the transport Tofua, has returned to Trentham, having sufficiently recovered to resume duty. Dr,Thacker, M.P., is unable to attend tho opening or the Rotorua soldiers' hospital, having been dotained in Christchurch by professional duties. Dr Thacker and Mrs Thacker expect to make a. trip to the north in a. few days, leaving Christchurch probably on Thursday evening. Mr H. P. Wyatt, Acting-Superinten-dent of tho Wellington office of the Post and Telegraph Department, has been appointed to the position of Superintendent at Christchurch, replacing Mr A. J. C. Talbot, who will take charge of the Auckland office. Mr F. Gannaway, at present Superintendent at Auckland, will replace Mr Wyatt at Wellington.

Trooper N. Eodgers, formerly of Ash burton, who returned to New Zealand by the Maheno, arrived in Ashburton by the second express yesterday. He was a. member of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, and was on the Gallipoli Peninsula for twelve weeks. He was met at the station by the Mayor (Mr H. Galbraith) and Mr Duncan M'Kenzie. Trooper Rodgers will be the gi:est of Mr M'Kenzie during his stay in Ashburton. The Bluff "Press" announces the death of Mr Edward Bradslnr.v, an old respected resident of Bluff, in his seventy-fifth year. Ho was one of the pioneer gold diggers in 1861 at Gabriel's Gully, the cold and insufficient food and shelter drove him out, however. In 1863 he went to Nelson, wiiere he was engaged in salvaging the cargo of the wrecked vessel Delewaro. Back to Ota-go, he took up a piece of land on Brim's Point but back again came the gold fever and he joined the rush to liavoJock, voyaging to Picton in the s.s:. William Miskin. Another visit to Ota go and then ho was off to tho West Coast in 1865 in the s.s. Alharubra with 970 other passengers). The sea was too heavy for the passengers to land at Hokitika, but Mr Bradshaw and his brother risked the surf in their own boat and successfully landed their stores and gear. Bradshaw Bros, did fairly well with their claim and with lightering. Later they took up a fairly good "claim at the Twelve Mile (Grey).
