" Time?."—Sydney " Sun " Special Cables. AN AMUSEMENT TAX. BERLIN, November 11. The authorities have imposed an amusement tax on circuses, variety entertainments, kinematograph shows and danco halls. The proprietors are complaining that their profits are eaten up by the tax. They endeavoured to pass it ov to their patrons by increasing pi ices, but the attempt failed, the public taking cheaper seats. TO DETER EMIGRATION. A series of articles of a malicious character has begun in German newspapers to deter Germans emigrating to British dominions. The " Lokal Anzeiger." states that the chief product of Canadian towns is pamphlets about their own virtues. It describes passengers on the railways as " powerful athletes, unshaven, and with dirty boots into which they stick hairy legs clad in silk socks."
