The case of Shipman versus Simmons, a claim for £2OOO for alleged Elander, the plaintiff has been granted a writ of capias against defendant, who said that he would be leaving shortly for Java. The slander complained of was contained in the words: "This is Shopman's finish. Madame Nordica could put him in gaol for misappropriating her money," which plaintiff alleged defendant uttered aboard the Loongana to three others. Simmons is also alleged to have said: "Shipman has been robbing Madame Nordica right and left," which words are said to have been uttered at the Hotel Australia in Sydney to another person.. '
