PROSPECTIVE MELBA.
MISS SMITH'S VOICE.
FURTHER REMARKS BY HERR,
SAUER
The singing of Miss E. Smith at the musical competitions in the King's Theatre is still discussed in the city, and opinions are expressed on Herr Salter's prophecies in regard to the little lady's brilliant future.
In a short interview to-day Herr Sauer said that lie had then had several opportunities of hearing her sing, and had analysed her performances, and, as a voice expert, he .had come to a definite conclusion that die had an exceptional larynx, capable of producing a remarkable tone. She also possessed a range of no mean capacity, and in her singing she disclosed much natural talent. Her successful development depended first upon diaphragmatic breathing, secondly upon clear articulation, pronunciation and enunciation, and also upon vocal production. Ho would recommend to her an immediate study of those points, and that she should take, once a week for twenty minutes, exercises of the middle register of her voice.
If Miss Smith's voice was developed properly, and if she retained her he had perfect confidence in predicting that she would become one of the greatest singers of the present time.
