HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.
THE SATURDAY MOVEMENT.
The secretary of the Saturday HalfHoliday Committee states that- ho. _has communicated with various authorities in Australia as to the operation of the universal Saturday half-holiday. He has a letter from the Toivn Clerk of Melbourne, covering a statement from the Chief Inspector of Kacto'ics, to the effect that the Saturday halfholiday lias been in force ior three years and lias given satisfaction tiler© to both employers and cmph vees. H-e adds that- the Saturday halt-dir.- Kir proved satisfactory in the larger country centres where it- has been tried and a proposal to make the holiday universal in tho State will probably bo brought before Parliament next session.
The .secretary stated that, he was anxious to dispel the idea that a universal Saturday half-holiday would necessarily mean tho abolition of a late night for shopping.
