When John Moran was called fort trial on a peace disturbance chaj-ge it ! was reported by a messenger that he could not appear, as ho had broken his ; leg. . The sympathetic Judge sent a police- % man to'Moran's home to inquire as to s his condition.' He found Moran seated at the window, apparently in good health. "Did you break your leg?" asked : the policeman. < "I did," replied Moran. "How?" " "With a hammer. I didn't van# to go to Court." " Let's see your leg." "It's out in the woodshed. Go and!' look at it." said Moran. The policeman found the wo*i<2eu-leg in the woodshed. Ho mended it with a piece of scantling and then tool® . Moran to Court.
