TRAMWAY BOARD.!

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday; present—Messrs G. T. Booth (chairman), J, A. Flesher, 0. M. Gray, D. Sykes, S. A. Staples, A. W. Bearen and the Hon J. Barr. Accounts amounting to £5626 16s Sd were passed for payment. The Works and Traffic Committee reported that it had no recommendation to make at present on the proposal that the Board should build its own cars. In order to increase the water sprinkling and to reduce the running expenses, the committee proposed to instal at least five additional water depots in the suburbs, and was negotiating with the City Council respecting an alteration in the present agreement relating to water-sprinkling in order to secure greater flexibility in the use of the plant. The five new depots would probably cost £BBS without- sidings, which might be necessary in one or two cases. The report was adopted, and a special committee was appointed to inquire into the cost of street watering. Mr Ban- moved—" That the resolution passed by tlio Board on November 11 last deciding to give the ratepayers in the St Martin's district an opportunity of voting on the railless as well as the electric system should bo rescinded." He argued that there should be a clear-cut issue presented to the ratepayers in the poll on the floating of a. loan for an extension of the electric trams. The motion was lost, the chairman and Messrs Flesher, Gray, Sykes and Staples voting against it
