—« THE DATE OF THE ELECTION. DEFINITELY FIXED FOR DECEMBER 7. Sir Joseph. Ward announced in Christchurch to-day that the date of the election ha,s been definitely fixed for December 7. Mr Hiram Hunter will address a meeting of the electors in tho St Saviour's Schoolroom, corner of Brougham and Queen Streets, Sydenham, on. Monday next, at. 8 p.m. A Labour demonstration has been arranged to take place in Victoria Square on Thursday, commencing at 7.1 o p.m.. The massed bands of Christchurch will give a popular selection of music, and a collection will be taken up in aid of the Labour Party's campaign fund. Those willing to take charge of collection-boxes are requested to meet at Mr Hiram Hunter's commit-tee-rooms, corner of Cashel and Manchester Streets (above Union Stoam Ship Company's office), at U.lo, on Thursday. Ladies are specially invited ta, In the report of Mr Witty's address at Riccarton last night, it was stated that if the local option ifsue was abolished he would be preimrcd. to support the 55 per cent majority on tho dominion prohibition issue. What ho said on the. point was that if there were only the one isMie.. no license no liquor for the dominion, he would agree to the 55 per cent.
