CHRISTO.HURCH SPORTS CLUB. r A meeting of the committee of the Christchureh Sports Chib was held yesterday. The secretary reported that all arrangements were complete for the contest at Kis Majesty's Theatre on show morning. November 10, between J. Mitchell'(holder), of Millerton. and M. F. Ryan, of Napier. Each man had forwarded the sum of £lO as guarantee that he would compete, together with medical certificate stating that he was in physical condition. The preliminary will be a six-round contest between the well-known amateurs, J. Sharplin, of Stavely, and S. Fitzsimmons, of Tiniaru, who is a nephew of the famous Bob Fitzsimnions. This will be his first appearance in the ring in Christchureh. It was decided, in order to suit the convenience of patrons, not to havo an interval; that the principals in rh? preliminary should be informed that they niust be ready to enter the ring punctually at 10 a.m.; and that the contestants for the heavy-weight professional championship must be in readiness to compete Immediately on the conclusion of the amateur bout. Mr .T. Isaacs, secretary of the Otago Association, forwarded a design of the challenge shield presented by the Wairongoa Company for competition between Otago and Canterbury amateurs. He suggested that the competition should bo held annually, and that the Christchureh Sports Club should submit a set of conditions to govern the competition to the Otago Association. It was decided to accept the two suggestions. The secretary reported, in connection with the oomnctition held on October 26. that Williams had refused to enter the ring when called upon by the officials, and that his action had delayed the proceedings for twenty-five minutes. Tt wa.s within the power of the club to punish Williams cither bv fine or suspension; but, while William's richly deserved punishment for the callous manner in which he had treated the club and its patrons, he war. of opinion that the case should simplv be reported to the Council, with a recommendation that the articles of agreement -which the Tnvercargill conference had suggested should be drafted so that there should bo one set of conditions iti use in the dominion, and which he understood were being drawn np- -should contain a clause to deal with cases of the kind referred to. The secretary's suggestion was agreed to. Correspondence was received from several professionals stating their readiness to accept matches" for the December 11 date. Tt was decided to confine the December 11 competition to amateurs, and to communicate with M'Quarrio, Fitzsimmons, Sharplin, Finnic, Boreham. Gumi, Bennetts, Penrose, the Hagerty Brothers, Kane and others respecting six-round match os._ Tt was also decided to agTPe to the request from instructors to cater for two or three classes for novices, provided, the secretary wqto. supplied with the list of competitors by.
