CRICKET.

THE ENGLISH TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA. United Press Association— By Elcctrio Telegraph—(Jopyrighl. FEEMANTLE, October 31. The English cricketers are aboard tho Orvicto, which arrived from London to-day. They arc in excellent health. INTERVIEW WITH WARNER. FItEMANTLE. November 1. Mr Warner, captain of the English cricket team, interviewed, said that he had an excellent team of fighters. He could not say how they compared, with the previous team, but they were the beat possible except Fry and Spooner. He would not say that he thought they would win, but the whole team would do their best. Fry was at the top of hia form, although forty, and was batting better than eyor, but he was not equal to Trump ex. Ho was reticent about comparing the merits of the different members of tlio team. All were good in their different departments. There were three left-handed batsmen—Kinnear, Mead and Woolley, and lefthanded men were invaluable to a team. Hitch was the fastest bowler, aaid also a brilliant field. Cricket was flourishing in England, and they had had an excellent summer. He did not think that the triangular scheme was practicable under a period of every ten years, anyhow. It would greatly dislocate county cricket. It was not true that they had had. their pockets picked, as cabled. The story was a distinct libel on the light-fingered gentry. During this tour amateurs and professionals would stop at the same hotels. [Per Pkkss Association.] WELLINGTON. November 1, Mr G. J. Thompson, who arrived by the Athenic, will go to Auckland tomorrow as a coach for the Cricket Association, Ho thinks the English team good all round, and that they will pull safely through tho tests. They coukl have been improved, but not to any great extent.
