PERSONAL.
It is expected that Sir Joseph Vv arcL will arrive in Christchurcli 011 Sunday and leave for the south on Monday. Mr T. E. Y. Scddon, M.V., and Mr H. 6. Ell, xU.P., arrived from Wellington -by the Mokoia this morning. Captains Hamilton, Arthur, Onslow and Maidlaw and 'Lieutenant Wallingford arrived at Wellington to-day from England to join the Defence Staff. Mr It. H. W. Bligh, lecturer for the White Gross League, has been in illhealth during the lasb two months. Ho has sufficiently recovered, however, to lecture, and will visit Teiwilra, Winchester and Geraldino during next week. Ho will, arrive at Ohmtchurch 011 November 13.
Tho following appointments were made by tho Education Board to-day : Ea.lirig, Miss H. S. Copland, mistress, sole charge ; Ellesnnere, Miss 11. Mayne, mistress (temporary); Iliglibank, Miss C. Koaly. mistress (temporary): Lyttelton District High School, Mr \V. 0. Gilmour, assistant, secondary department. The following leaves of absence owing to illness were granted:—Christchurcli East. Miss H. Kent, six weeks; Opawa, Mr G. Petrie, n. fortnight; Puaha, Miss M. Bell, a fortnight; Richmond, Miss K. Newton, tiil end of November, Tho resignation of Miss E. Whiteside, mistress at No iv land,, was received and accented..
