The Press generally makes reference to the loss the Australian Catholics will suffer by the death of Cardinal Moran, and refers to his militancy in favour of Home Rule and his unceasing efforts in its favour. LYING IN STATE.
MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY. (Received August 18, 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 18,
Cardinal Moran is lying in state at St Mary's Cathedral, and thousands of people hate viewed the dead churchman.
Last night a special gazette was published which refers to the public loss sustained by the Cardinal's death, and directs flags to be flown at half-fiiast on the Government buildings.
Many messages of sympathy have been received, including those from Archbishop Redwood, the Bishops of Auckland and Dunedin, and a number of Catholio bodies in New Zealand; two from Rome, one from the Vatican and the other from Read's Irish College, which mourns the loss of a guide, benefactor and friend.
