A KNOWING DOG.
This dog story comes from Aberdeen, not America. He was an intelligent dog, and his owner, proud of his powers, gave him a penny every weekdav with which to buy a bun. For some; weeks the dog trotted daily to the baker's, placed the penny on the counter, and iocoived a bun in exchange. But he was not of.e Scottish breed, and could not be brought to appreciate in a proper spirit the fact that the baker's shop was closed on Sundays. On the Sabbath he was quite uncontrollable. At last, one Monday morning, instead of trotting off to the baker's as usual, the dog took the penny and buried it in the garden. Having great faith in the animal's intelligence, his master did not interfere, and the same thing happened everyday until Saturday. Then the dog dug up tho pennies and trotted blithely off to the baker's shop. Jle hud noticed that the buns were marked aeven for sixpence.
