[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON', August 13. William Johnston, a married man, a very old resident of and well known in building circles, was found denl in bed yesterday. that he had been worried over money matters. At 5.30 p.m. or, Friday he tolpphnnorl +o }Jr J. W. Evr.hs, pdhilt'! , of Cuba Street, and said "Good-bye," adding that he would not see hi,'n again. Yesterday morning at 9.-'0 Mr Evans and Mr V. Jensen went to hin room and found him in bed quite dead. A bottle which had contained prussic acid was lying by. At an inquest today a verdict was returned of suicide while of unsound mind.

James Joseph Martin, expressman, died in the hospital to-day as the result of injuries received through falling from his express on August 4. TTMARU, August 13. A child was knocked, down by a motor-car yesterday unci seriously hurt. The car was travelling slowly. The child ran out into the road.

An inquest touching the death of Thomas Mummery was held before the district coroner, Mr V. G. "Day, on Saturday afternoon at Ashburten. The following note, left by the deceased, was react: "I find life is a hard .struggle with being a cripple. I am only working to keep myself in artificial limbs, so wh'at is the use of getting kicked about from place to place? ("Toodbye everybody." The coroner returned a verdict that the deceased died from a revolver wound, self-inflicted, at a. time when he was temporarily unsound in his mind. The deceased was about thirty-six years- of acre and was married, but the whereabouts of his wife is unknown. He had been working on the estate of the late Mr George M'Rae, near Ashburton. and his body was found on Saturday morning in a building on the property.
