At the annual meeting of the Longwool Sheepbreeders' Association it was stated that the spread, of closer settlement had resulted in an increased demand for this class of sheep. The speakers strongly urged the necessity of blocking subsidies to shows which gave prizes indiscriminately to British breeds whether of true typo or not. This was a matter which the Minister of Agriculture promised to consider. The meeting amended the rules with this end in view. One speaker declaiv ed that there was a probability of the European markets being opened to Australian meat, and it this were done there would be such a. development ol British breeds t 1 the developments in New Zealand * ;ld seem very small indeed. NEW ZEALAND STOCK SALES. MERINOES. At the sales odd sales were made in the merino section, the top price being 700 guineas for a Haddonng ram. two others of the same lot fetched 300gs and 380gs.
