In connection with the destruction of the Dalmorc distillery in Ross-shire, on I lie cry of " Fire " being raised, a number of hall'-nnked men rushed to liberate the famous herd of polled cattle. Women huddled in groups in the market square to evade the rush of the maddened animals. One hundred casks of twenty-year-old whisky were burnt. These casks ted tho flames, and the liquor flowed into the Cromarty Firth. Sand thrown on the burning stream was futile, and the burning spirit lit the Firth like a. searchlight and was visible at Dingwall, nine miles away.
