ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

A workman named William Jones was engaged dismantling an old boardinghouse in the city this afternoon when a heavy case fell on him and killed him instantly. Deceased was about fifty-live years of age. WELLINGTON, July 3. Mr Duncan -M'Murrich, marine superintendent in Wellington for the Union Steam Ship Company, was killed by a tramear to-night. He and his wife were crossing a street near the corner of Jorvois Qua}' and Ballanco Street^ and did not notice that a car was coming near theni. The motorman, seeing them, rang the alarm bell. Mr M'Murrich and his wile hesitated, then he went forward and attempted to pull his wife with him. apparently thinking there was time, to cross before the car reached the spot. Mr M'Murrich, however, was knocked down, and when taken off the lifeguard it was found that his skull was fractured, death having been practically instantaneous. Deceased, who was fifty-seven years of age, had been inauv years in the service of the Union Company. He came from Scotland ifi the old Rotorua and afterwards was employed on a number of the company's steamers, lastly as chief engineer of the Mararoa. Some fourteen years ago he was made Wellington superintendent. He leaves a widow, five .sons and one daughter. WESTPORT, Julv 3.
Timothy Shaw, single, about forty years of age, a partner in a contract in the formation of the "\Yostport-Inan-galiua railway, was' killed to-day through being struck by a shower of stones from a blast that had prematurely taken place on an adjoining eontract. Two other men. Murphy and T. Corbett", were slightly injured. .NELSON,".JuIy 3. The body of Mrs Ann Horrowman, as;cd sixty-two, resident at Cape Foulwind, was found floating in the harbour this afternoon. She bad Wen staying in Nelson, and was missed about 2.30, having failed to pay an expected visit to a relative. Sue leaves a grown-up family. Mrs Kendall, of Ixwell, was thrown from her gig near the Leeston railway station on Saturday evening and badly rut about the face. The pony had been startled, previously by a traction engine in the main street, but Mas held by Constable, Traeev until it quietened down.
