Mr Samuel Mauger, at Whitefields Tabernacle, explained the improvement! due to the Australian Wages Board. The bride did not arrive, but had written to her father saying that she had changed her mind and had left London. DISTILLERY ON FIRE. Fire is raging in the Dalmore distillery, Ross-shire, and the burning whisky is flowing into the Cromarty Firth. BUSH FIRES. Fierce bush fires in the Cobalt miiiinft region, in Ontario, destroyed several camps. There have been some fatalities. It is believed that the hot, dry weather was responsible. HOT WEATHER. A New York message Says to-day was the hottest day of the year, following two days of swelter. It is estimated that 400,000 people slept on Coney Island sands in an effort to keep cool. The death list is heavy throughout the I eastern and middle States.
