CYCLING.

CLUB AND CENTRE

In response to the application made by the Christchurch Cycling and Motor Club to the chairman of tlie Now Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union for a full and searching inquiry into the attitude adopted by the North Canterbury Centre towards the club, the club was yesterday advised that its application had been favourably considered, and that its wishes in the matter would bo given effect to. Tlie inquiry would be held on Thursday evening in Christchurch, in the rooms of the Christchurch Cycling and Motor Club, which the club had placed at th& disposal of the Union for the purpose. It is understood that three persoiiß will be allowed to place the club's position before the inquiry, and a like number will present the case for the Centre. The inquiry is virtually the outcome of the Holway exhibition carnival, held by the club on January 14 Many prominent wheelmen whose attendance was expected were absent from the meeting, and a conference was held by the Race Committee of the club and several of the riders for tlie purpose of ascertaining what the future attitude of the riders would be towards the club's proposed fixtures. As a result of this somewhat informal meeting the Centre held an inquiry into the club's actions in meeting the riders in conference, etc.-, with the result that tlie club was instructed to apologise to these riders through the Centre. This request was declined, and the club approached the Union on the matter. It was then directed to forward its letter through the North Canterbury Centre for transmission to the Union. '.Una was done, but the Centre declined to forward the letter to the Union, and the club decided to approach the chairman of the Union direct.
