WORK AND WAGES.

An ordinary meeting of the Canterbury Trades aaid Labour Council was held on Saturday, Mr G, R. Whiting (president) in the chair. Now delegates were received from the Curriers', Bakers', General Labourers', Plumbers' and. Moulders' Unions. It was decided, on the recommendation of the Drivers' Union, that Rule 19 of the Council should be forwarded to the Unions for amendment. The General Labourers' Union wrote, stating that its name had been changed to the Canterbury Builders' and General Labourers', Quarry Workers and Wool and Grain Stores Employees' Industrial Union of Workers. The Minister of Public Works wrote, stating that ha was unable to accede to the Council's request to supply copies of pay-sheets of men working at Cass. The Coachworkers' Union wrote, stating that the question of re-affiliating with the Council would be discussed at the annual meeting, and it was decided that a deputation should wait on the Union at the meeting. Mr F. H. Labatt, auditor of tho Council, wrote tendering his resignation owing to pressure of business, arid the resignation was accepted. The Brick, Tile and Pottery Union wrote, giving the necessary notice to secede from the Council. The Ironmasters' Association wrote, inviting the Council to send delegates to a conference between the A<3sociation, employers in the trade, the Industrial Association and 'Trades Council, for the purpose of devising a scheme that would place the iron industry on a better footing. It was decided that the Council should comply with the request, and Messrs H. A. Robinson, E.~ Howard and J. Young were appointed delegates. At the next meeting of tho Council the remits to the annual conference will, be discussed.
