lake coleridge scheme. an imm:ediate"beginning. At last evening's meeting of the i Christchurch City Council, the following letter was received from Mr T. E. I Taylor, M.P.: "I have pleasure in advising you that a party of surveyors have been ordered to Lake Coleridge to commence tho necessary work connected with the installation of the Lake Coleridge power scheme. I have seen tho Hon R. M'Kenzie and discussed the advisability of having some ceremony arranged to commemorate the beginning of an undertaking so full 'of promise to Christchurch "and North Canterbury. I gather from him that he will be glad to assist in anything your Council may think it wise to arrange, aud I venture to suggest that you should communicate with him if you decide to adopt the suggestion. Although the Council has not been permitted to itself carry out this work, cordial cooperation with the Government should bo arranged for." The Mayor said- that he thought it advisable that the work should go beyond the stage before anything in the nature of an inaugural function was arranged. He quite agreed, with Mr Taylor, however, that the event should bo marked in some fitting .manner. Councillor W. H. Cooper supported the view of the matter taken by the Mayor. Dr Tliacker said the Councillors, when they visited Lake Coleridge, had. themselves inaugurated the scheme. Tho matter was referred to the Departmental Committee. I
