CYCLING.
LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN. A meeting of tho Council of the League of New Zealand Wheelmen was held last evening; present—Messrs D. E. Wood (in the chair), A. C. Duff A. J. Wootteiij B. Harding and A. S. Lindsay (secretary). Mr It. Lightbody was elected a member of the Council in place of Mr H. G. Goodman. The North Canterbury Centre wroto drawing attention to the fact that the Greymouth Hibernian Society's meeting, which was under the jurisdiction of tho Athletic Union, was advertised as being under tho League's rules, despite the fact that no permit had been given by tho League. It was decided that the Athletic Union should be informed of the subject matter of the letter, and that entries from riders disqualified by the League had been accepted by the Hibernian Society, and that the list of entries included the name of A. B. L. Smith, who was now a disqualified rider and who had competed at the- Wanganui Caledonian Society's meeting. It was stated that, unless tho Greymouth Hibernian Society applied for a permit by March 19, the League would declare the meeting an unregistered one. It was resolved that a short account of the negotiations between the League and the Athletic Union in regard to tho preparation of a reciprocal agreement btween the two bodies should be drafted, and a copy forwarded to each Centre. Messrs B. Harding and A. C. Duff were appointed to draw up tho statement. It was decided to allot £IOO as the first prize in tho Timaru-Christchurch road race to- be held on October 29, and it was decided to ask the Dun lop Rubber Company to alter the date of the Warrnambool-Melbourne road race so as to enable riders to compete in both events.
