* Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., who has been spending a holiday in Central Otago and at the cold lakes, returned to Christchurch last evening. As the result of his trip his health has,been thoroughly re-established. Mr Hogg will remain in Christchurch for a few days, in order to take part in a conference of members of the House of Representatives in connection with the land question. At the meeting of the Ashburton County Council to-day a telegram was received from Mr H. C. Waterfield, private secretary, stating that hia Excellency the Governor intended paying a visit to the Ashburton district on March 23. Lord Plunket will arrive at Rakaia by the 10.7 a.m. train, thon motor to Barrhill, Highbank, Methven, Alford Forest, Staveley and Mount Soraers, and then go to Ashburton by a train arriving at -l.ou p.m. Hie Excellency will stop in Ashburton overnight, and will proceed to Timaru by the 1.50 p.m. train on March 24. Dr Blackmore, who has been appointed resident medical officer of the North Canterbury Consumptive Sanatorium at Cashmere, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. He will pay a visit to the institution accompanied by the chairman of tho Sanatorium Committee, Mr C. Allison, at an early date, and in the meantime is engaged with Dr Crooke in considering applications for admission to tho institution. A meeting of the committee will be called earlv next week, at which Dr Blackmore will be consulted as to the adoption of the regulations drawn up by Dr Valentine for the conduct of the Sanatorium. Public farewells at Greendale, \Vad n dington and Annat have been extend-, ed to the Rev B. Dudlev and his wife, who are leaving the Greendale Primitive Methodist circuit for the Bluff, to which Mr Dudley has accepted a call. He explained that the reason he had decided to leave the Greendale charge was its quietude and the long journeys involved. General regret was expressed at Mr Dudley's departure. A handsome travelling rug w«s presented to Mrs Dudley as a mark of the esteem in which she was held by the teachers and scholars of the Waddington Sundav-achool.
