Among the anecdotes narrated p3J Joseph L. Barbour is one that has as iti hero an Irishman who went to America at what seemed to him great expense. His thoughts wandered back sorrowfully to his departed cash as he sailed into New York Harbour. As he was wishing he had back his passage-money he looked over the steamship deck railing and,, saw a diver emerge from the water. When the diver had climbed the side of thevtender, removed his helmet and revealed the fact that he was a htlman being, the newcomer spoke. -^ ' " Begorra, begorra \' r moaned he,v** if I'd known ye could walk across I'd hav%> done that meself and saved me paa* : : fiage^money." ■ ' ; -
