REDUCTION ON THE PACIFIC LINE. United Press Association — By Eleotrio Telegraph — Copyright. LONDON, June 28. The Pacific cable reduction will become operative in about a month. MELBO JRNE, June 28. Mr Deakin declared that any reduction in cable rates would be welcome in Australia. He said that he was consulting the postal authorities on the question of reducing the land charges. Generally speaking the Government was favourable to a reduction. The Pacific Board had informed the Government that it had agreed to reduce its proportional charges, and asked the Commonwealth to reduce its proportion. The request had not yet been considered by the Postmaster-General. Notice of any reduction on the Pacific line must be given to the Eastern Extension Company. This probably meant that the company would reduce the rates of Press me-6as.es.
