THE BAND CONTEST.
TO THE EDIXOK. Sir, —Kindly grant me a few lines in your valuable paper to refer to the coming .baud contest. I hear it rumoured that the committee intends having one selection (own choice) played inside the concert hall, and the other outside. Now, I trust the powers that. be will not sanction this, fox- these reasons: Firstly, from a- financial point of view, secondly, owing to the defective acoustic properties of the hall. Mr Owen's request that his band should not be asked to play inside the hall indicates what he thought of the building, and I take it that hie opinion is worth something. Moreover, if the selection is played outside everyone will have an opportunity of hearing it. If any selection is to be played inside, I should suggest the. test selection, for this reason—where all the bands are playing different selections, the public generally will have a much better chance outside, of hearing all the different pieces, and will be more inclined to stay, but with one selection the public will not care to ait out all the evening. Thanking you in anticipation I am, etc., VISITOR.
