NOTES
The week vas ushered in this morning under favourable weather conditions, and the fresh easterly breeze served the grateful purpose of ventilating the buildings properly. There was a poor attendance, but it bade fair to increase as the day wore on. •There will be a demonstration of fruit preserving on Wednesday after-, noon at two o'clock. Mr I. Hopkins Government Apiarist, left Christeiiurcli this morning on a visit to Central Otago. During his absence work in the model apiary will go on as usual under the direction, of Miss Livesey, assistant apiarist. This morning, Mr D. D. Hyde, Government I'oultry Expert, was arranging a very tasteful and creditable display of plucked poultry in one of the freezing chambers in the Machinery Hall. The birds, which have been prepared for export by the Department, are up to the highest standard, and compare more than favourably with anything else on view in the Exhibition. The Besses-o-th'-Barn Band will play, at an early date, two of Mr H. Rossiter's latest compositions, the " Vanora" waltz and " Poppies," a gavotte. Copies of the music were presented to Mr A.
